Bone Diseases In The Jaw
Bone diseases in the jaw: selected clinical cases treated by Dr. Armando Torres Castillo.
There can occur a number of diseases in the jaw, both benign and malignant. Many of them are derived from leftover remnants of teeth.
Below we present several cases of maxillary bone diseases treated by Dr. Armando Torres Castillo.
Patient case with fibro-osseous dysplasia

Fibromyxoma associated with a wisdom tooth
Fibromyxoma is generally benign but may be locally aggressive, so evaluation, treatment planning, and follow-up depend on the clinical assessment.

Keratocyst associated with a wisdom tooth

Keratocyst associated with impacted teeth
As noted in previous cases, a keratocyst can be benign yet very aggressive. This block includes follow-up images after treatment.

Odontogenic myxoma

Compound odontoma

Ameloblastoma associated with a wisdom tooth

Mandibular torus and palatal torus
Tori are benign bony growths (mandibular or palatal). Depending on the case, they may require evaluation and treatment.

Traumatic bone cyst

Osteoma: bone hyperdensity
In the last case the wisdom tooth (third molar) is in a bad position, preventing the placement of crowns on adjacent teeth.

Dentigerous cyst

Periapical cyst (at the root of the tooth)
The periapical cyst is the most common cyst to present in the jaw. It is associated with dental cavities, a poorly performed endodontic procedure or a poorly performed root canal. This creates a cyst in the tooth root that grows slowly and leads to bone destruction, as shown in the example.

Dentigerous cyst with a tooth bud in the upper jaw
In the last picture we can see the bone reconstruction performed after treating the dentigerous cyst.

Recent cases
Case: Ameloblastoma
Ameloblastoma is an odontogenic tumor that is usually benign but can be locally aggressive, and may require resection and reconstruction depending on its extent.

Case: Intrasinusal polyp
Clinical case of an intrasinusal polyp, assessed with imaging and treated according to the indication.

Keratocystic bone lesion in a 5-year-old patient
Clinical case with planning and follow-up images.

Case: Intrasinusal cyst

Case: Periapical cyst (additional case)
