Bone Diseases In The Jaw

Bone diseases in the jaw: selected clinical cases treated by Dr. Armando Torres Castillo.

There can occur a number of diseases in the jaw, both benign and malignant. Many of them are derived from leftover remnants of teeth.

Below we present several cases of maxillary bone diseases treated by Dr. Armando Torres Castillo.

Patient case with fibro-osseous dysplasia

Fibro-osseous dysplasia

Fibromyxoma associated with a wisdom tooth

Fibromyxoma is generally benign but may be locally aggressive, so evaluation, treatment planning, and follow-up depend on the clinical assessment.

Keratocyst associated with impacted teeth

As noted in previous cases, a keratocyst can be benign yet very aggressive. This block includes follow-up images after treatment.

Mandibular torus and palatal torus

Tori are benign bony growths (mandibular or palatal). Depending on the case, they may require evaluation and treatment.

Traumatic bone cyst

Osteoma: bone hyperdensity

In the last case the wisdom tooth (third molar) is in a bad position, preventing the placement of crowns on adjacent teeth.

Periapical cyst (at the root of the tooth)

The periapical cyst is the most common cyst to present in the jaw. It is associated with dental cavities, a poorly performed endodontic procedure or a poorly performed root canal. This creates a cyst in the tooth root that grows slowly and leads to bone destruction, as shown in the example.
