After a patient has lost teeth, the areas of the bone which previously held these teeth begin to suffer a process of reabsorption, and as time passes, this reabsorption becomes greater and greater. For this reason bone grafts are required in the jaw in order to properly place any dental implants, afterwhich the teeth are replaced and their functionality is restored, thus allowing the patient to properly chew again.
