Maxillary Exostosis (Reduction Of Excess Bone In The Maxilla)
Maxillary exostosis: reduction of excess bone when it causes discomfort, recurrent irritation, hygiene difficulty, or interferes with treatment planning.
A maxillary exostosis is a benign bony growth in the maxilla. In many cases it does not require treatment. When it causes discomfort, repeated soft-tissue irritation, hygiene issues, or interferes with prosthetics/restorations, a conservative bone reduction/remodeling procedure may be indicated.
When is treatment recommended?
- Discomfort when chewing or soft-tissue rubbing.
- Aesthetic discomfort.
- Recurrent irritation/inflammation due to contact.
- Hygiene difficulty (food retention).
- Interference with prosthetic work or treatment planning.
